Papermakers Solid In 33-14 Road Victory At Lincoln (Tacoma)

Two goal line stands by the Camas defense just before halftime, and two deep touchdown passes from QB Jake Davidson to WR Jack Macdonald spark the Papermakers 33-14 road victory over 3A top-10 ranked Lincoln of Tacoma.

Camas LB Beau Harlan intercepts the Abes bobbled handoff inside the 5 yard line late in the 2nd quarter, one of two Papermakrs goal line stops in the final 2 minutes of the first half.

Just five plays into the game, Davidson went up top and hit Macdonald in stride for a 40 yard touchdown and an early Camas 7-0 lead. Things looked as they may get out of hand early following a Lincoln three and out. Unfortunately on the next Papermakers possession a Davidson pass attempt was intercepted after grazing the hands of the Camas receiver. On the next snap, DE Zuko Lopez forced a fumble that was recovered by LB Alex Hroza.

Settling things down, Camas put together a balanced 10-play, 60 yard drive featuring 6 runs and 4 passes. RB Titan Bordy got the drive going with an explosive 27 yard run, and Davidson completed the drive with an exciting 9 yard touchdown pass to WR Chase McGee that ended with a scramble drill put to the test. Following another Lincoln three and out, Camas’ offence took over in Abes territory. Seven plays later Davidson once again went deep to Macdonald, this time from 26 yards out to put Camas up 20-0 early into the 2nd quarte

Titan Brody ran the ball 21 times for 99 yards and had a 51 yard touchdown reception in the Papermakers 33-14 victory.

The #8 ranked 3A program Lincoln was not going to simply lay down despite the early hole. The Abes answered with a 17 play, 77 yard drive that got down to the Camas 3. After a Lincoln 17 yard pass set up a first an goal at the Camas 2, DE Luke Webb had the “WOW” play of the game when he cut through the line and blew up the Abes running back for a 2-yard loss. After a defensive penalty led to another Lincoln 1st and goal, Lincoln attempted to run a sweep play to their speedy receiver, however the forward toss was bobbled and picked off by Beau Harlan ending the scoring threat. Following a short Papermakrs punt, Lincoln took advantage of the short field and drove deep into Camas territory as the first half clock wound down. On the final play of the half, CB Anthony Forner forced a fumble at the one yard line as it appeared the Lincoln QB was going to dive in for the score.

Camas opened the 3rd quarter with a 13-play, 86 yard drive featuring more hard running by Titan Brody and a 21-yard pass to WR Ryder Jacobson. Davidson capped the drive with his fourth touchdown on the night when he hit TE Nikko Speer on a 8 yard pass and a 27-0 lead.

The rest of the 3rd quarter featured short drives and punts before Speer intercepted a Lincoln pass. The following Papermakres offensive possession ended in a turn over on downs near the red zone as the quarter came to an end. Lincoln answered with their first scoring drive of the game, going 79 yards in 8 plays.

Following an onside kick recovery by WR Ronan Loop, his first of two, Davidson dumped off the screen pass to Titan Brody who took the pass 51 yards for the final Camas touchdown of the game. Davidson ended the game going 19/25 for 231 yards and 5 passing touchdowns. Brody had 99 rushing yards and the 51 yard receiving touchdown for a 150 scrimmage yards. Macdonald finished the game with 4 catches for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns, while McGee had 6 receptions for 46 yards and the one score.

Lincoln answered with a final long drive ending in a second short yardage touchdown run.

Speer led the Camas Defense with 14 tackles, 1 TFL and 2 interceptions while Hroza added 11 tackles, the fumble recovery and 2 QB pressures. Harlan also had 11 tackles, including 2 TFL and the interception.

The Papermakers improve to 3-0 on the season with the win, avenging road losses to Lincoln in 2018 and 2022. Camas will be back home at Doc Harris Stadium Friday for another nonleague football game as they host Oregon City, Oregon for first time since 1934.
