An unusual 5pm kickoff in Laulainen Stadium at Schroeder Field did not deter Camas from their third consecutive victory of the season as the Papermakers struck early then outlasted Kelso 35-23 Friday evening.
After an opening drive ended with a 5 yard TD pass from QB Jake Davidson to TE Nikko Speer, Kelso quickly answered and tied the game at 7-7 early in the first quarter. The Papermakers then used three big on offense in each the first, second and third quarter to build a 27-10 lead late in the third quarter.
Following the Kelso tying score in the first quarter, Camas answered two drives later with a 79 yard TD pass from QB Grady Milhoen to WR Trenton Swanson and a 14-7 Camas lead. Later in the second quarter following a Kelso field goal, RB Titan Brody scored on a 33 yard TD run to give Camas the 21-10 halftime lead. Brody finished the night with 163 yards on just 13 carries.
On their third drive of the second half Camas use yet another big play to push their lead to 17. Davidson hit WR Anthony Forner on a 44 yard TD pass putting the Papermakers up 27-10. Kelso would not go away and sandwiched a couple TD around a Beau Harlin 6 yard TD. However, the Highlanders efforts were too late as a final attempt at an onside kick was unsuccessful and Camas took the nonleague road victory back to Clark County.
The Papermakers improved to 3-1 on the season with the win. Camas will once again be back home at Doc Harris Stadium Friday for another nonleague football game, this time hosting Kamiak.
