Following a hard fought week 1 12-6 victory in which inconsistency at times slowed down the Papermakers Offense and Special Teams, all three phases shined Friday night as Camas picks up the 48-6 road victory over Oregon 6A Clackamas.
It did not take long for the Camas Defense to make a statement Friday night. On just the third snap of the game, Clackamas attempted to slip a Tight End behind the hard charge of DE Luke Webb, unfortunately for the Cavaliers, LB Hayden Ollmann cut off the rout intercepting the pass and returning it 38 yards for the touchdown and the early 7-0 lead. After failing to convert on both point after attempts last week, one missed extra point and one 2-point conversion, K Jackson Tyler was true on his first attempt. Tyler connected on 6 of 7 PAT’s on the night only having one blocked just before the half.
After the defense forced a punt on the next Clackamas possession, the Papermakers offence went to work for the first time on the night. They systematically drove 74 yards in 10 plays, featuring 6 runs and 4 passes. After RB Titan Bordy ran the ball 4 times for 39 yards, QB Jake Davidson hit capped off the long drive by hitting WR Chase McGee on a slant from 3 yards out putting Camas up two scores.
Clackamas responded late in the 1st quarter with a 6-play, 86 yard drive ending in a 23 yard TD pass to cut the Papermakers lead to 14-6. Davidson and McGee would connect again on a short TD pass late in the 2nd quarter, this time from 2 yards out sending the Papermakers to the half up 20-6.
Just four plays into the 3rd quarter, Davidson and McGee connected for a 3rd TD, this time on a 46 yard deep pass giving Camas a commanding 27-6 lead. McGee finished the night with 6 catches for 86 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The home Cavaliers would not go away easy as they responded with a long drive of their own. Clackamas’ Offense drove 70 yards in 12 plays down to the Papermakers 10. Facing a 4th and 7, Clackamas attempted to score with a pass into the end zone, however CB Anthony Forner and S Jared Forner converged to break up the pass denying the scoring threat.
Taking over deep in their own territory, it did not take Camas long to deliver yet another blow to the host Cavaliers. Facing a 3rd and 4 at their own 16, Camas dialed up a screen pass to Titan Brody. Set up perfectly by excellent blocking from his Offensive Line, Brody slithered through the mess before turning on the jets and coasting for the 84 yard touchdown and the now 34-6 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Davidson completed the game going 11/18 for 207 yards and 4 passing touchdowns. Brody had 171 yards from scrimmage on the night, including 13 rushes for 87 yards.
Again refusing to go away easily, Clackamas drove down to the Camas 31 on their next drive. This time, on 4th and 4, Jared Forner jumped the pass at the sticks and bolted 76 yards to the end zone for the Papermakers 2nd Pick 6 of the game and the 41-6 lead. Jared Forner now has 2 interceptions on the season.
Camas tacked on one final score midway through the 4th quarter when RB Beau Harlan powered in for a 3 yard touchdown run and a 48-6 lead. Just as with games played in Washington, this was enough to initiate the 40 point running clock rule.
Ollmann and Anthony Forner led the Camas Defense with 9 tackles each, while Ollmann, LB J.P. Milner and DT Spencer Perley each had 1 sack on the night. Webb added another 4 tackles and 6 QB pressures while Harlan contributed 6 tackles and 4 QB pressures. DE Zuko Lopez added 6 tackles and 1 TFL while LB Alex Hroza had 5 tackles and 1 TFL.
The Papermakers improve to 2-0 on the season with the win, tying their all-time series with Clackamas at 1-1. Camas will head North Friday for another nonleague football game as they visit Lincoln of Tacoma for their 5th meeting since 2018.
