The Camas offense only needed four snaps to build a quick 14-0 lead Friday night at Doc Harris Stadium. The Papermakers used a 35 point first quarter to propel them to a 49-21 nonleague victory over Evergreen.
Camas only needed 2 snaps to start the game for QB Jake Davidson to find a wide open Chase McGee on a 50 yard TD pass and jump out to an early 7-0 lead. Following a three and out forced by the Papermakers defense, Davidson again found a wide open McGee, this time for a 57 yard TD pass and a 14-0 lead. Another Plainsmen three and out led to a 70 yard drive lasting 5 plays ending in a third Davidson TD pass, this time 18 yards to WR Jack Macdonald.
Wanting to better back-to-back three and outs, Camas LB Zuko Lopez intercepted an Evergreen “pass” on the Plainsmen’s next snap and ran it back 19 yards for a TD and a 28-0 lead less than 6 minutes into the first quarter. After a muffed punt gave Evergreen a short field and the Plainsmen’s first score of the game, Camas answered going 67 yards in 11 plays capped off with a 2 yard TD run from RB Beau Harlin. The quite long first quarter finally ended with Camas leading 35-7.
A pair of second quarter touchdown runs, 2 yards from Alex Holley and then 7 yards from Alex Hroza put Camas up 49-7 at halftime ensuring a “running clock” for the entire second half. The Papermakers offense accounted for 410 yards in the first half, while Evergreen was held to just 28 total yards and no first downs prior to the break.
The Papermakers improved to 5-1 on the season wrapping up their nonleague portion of the schedule on a 5-game winning streak. Camas will once again be home at Doc Harris Stadium Friday as they open 4A GSHL play vs rival Skyview.
