Camas played a very good football game Friday night at Doc Harris Stadium, but ended up falling 8-7 to the defending 3A state champion Yelm Tornadoes.
Looking to avenge a 44-14 road loss to Yelm in 2022, Camas played a much better game on defense, only allowing the Tornadoes one true scoring threat. Unfortunately that ended in a 30 yard TD run by Oregon commit Brayden Platt on a busted play. Platt then punched in the 2-point conversion for the 8-0 first quarter lead.
Camas answered before the half with a long TD drive capped off by RB Titan Brody who ran in the 4 yard TD and went into the break trailing 8-7.
In the 3rd quarter Camas took a brief 10-8 lead after a successful short field goal. However, a Yelm penalty gave Camas a first and goal and Camas elected to take the points off the board and try for the TD. This plan backfired when Yelm stopped the Papermakers on 3 consecutive downs and forced another field goal attempt, which was no good.
Late in the 4th quarter Camas again drove to the Yelm 1-yard line only to have the game winning field goal blocked with under 30 seconds remaining in the game.
Camas will travel to Glacier Peak nest Friday for another nonleague football game.
